TL;DR
Mixed-Race Composer/Video Editor/Gaymer/Literature Nerd. I have a full-length musical kickin' around called The Brontës (guess what it's about!) and run a publication called Musical Theater Today. Most importantly—I wanna work w/ u. Hit me up. XO
I was born in 1987, so I'm a millennial who remembers having a scrap of looseleaf paper taped to the fridge with the phone numbers of my best friends scrawled all over it. My dad's from India and my mom's white—like 5th generation German-Irish mixed or about that. I was born in Rochester, NY and have lived in NYC since 2006.
I studied at The New School upon moving to NYC for undergrad. I had a delightful sort of meandering path through college that allowed me to self-produce my own weird plays, write music to an adaptation of Tennessee Williams' Camino Real under the direction of Cecilia Rubino, study privately with the brilliant composer Stefania de Kenessey, and take a graduate-level literature course on War & Peace.
After college, I bopped around NYC for a bit having no idea what to do with my mad self. Then someone told me about the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop; I auditioned and was, by some miracle, accepted ("interesting use of horror movie chords," an adjucator mentioned after my tryout), and BOOM my life changed after that very first class. I met the most astounding group of talented, gracious, and intelligent friends and collaborators I could ever ask for. They're all still in my life today—I'd be nothing without them.
Since then I've collaborated with Sarah Ziegler (Lyricist) and Katie Palmer (Co-Artistic Director, Theater in Asylum) on The Brontës, a musical about my long-time favorite literary deviants. I've also founded and published three volumes of Musical Theater Today, an annual print publication dedicated to contemporary musical theatre.
Those are the main things. Explore the rest of my site for whatever your pleasure is.
